Greaves Cotton subsidiary Ampere has launched the Ultimate Endurance Ride, a ~4,000 km test of the Magnus GMax electric scooter across India.
The expedition begins on September 8, 2026, coinciding with World EV Day. Girish Seth of Weekend on Wheels will pilot the scooter from Dong in Arunachal Pradesh to Guhar Moti in Gujarat over 15 days.
Route and Conditions
The journey spans eight states, covering diverse terrains including high-altitude mountain roads, highways, urban stretches, and coastal areas. The route includes key stops in Patna, Varanasi, and Jaipur to engage with the dealer network and local stakeholders.
The scooter will face significant environmental variations during the trip:
- Temperature swing of roughly 20 degrees, from around 15 degrees Celsius in humid monsoon conditions to over 35 degrees Celsius in Gujarat heat
- Descent of over 1,200 meters from Dong to sea level
- Five distinct terrain types: rocky mountain passes, forested hill roads, smooth national highways, dense urban city stretches, and coastal/salt-flat terrain
Technology Focus
The ride aims to validate Ampere's "Built for Bharat" philosophy by testing the scooter's durability and reliability under real-world conditions. Key technologies being showcased include the Next Gen LFP battery, which offers a claimed life of 2,00,000 km, a dual frame chassis, and NxG.io smart technology.
Vikas Singh, Managing Director of Greaves Electric Mobility Limited, stated that the journey demonstrates how technology, reliability, and performance are built around Indian riding conditions. He noted that the diverse nature of India requires products designed for that specific reality.
Corporate Context
Greaves Cotton is a diversified engineering company with businesses in energy, mobility, and industrial solutions. Its subsidiary Greaves Electric Mobility Limited operates manufacturing plants in Hyderabad, Noida, and Ranipet, supported by 400 dealer touchpoints across India.
