Gross margin expanded to 35.54% from 34.26% in the prior quarter, aided by a decline in cost of goods sold percentage to 64.46% from 65.74%.

Earnings Call Insights

During the earnings webinar held on August 17, 2026, Mr. Akhilesh Chitlangia, Managing Director & CEO, elaborated on the revenue composition. Revenue from in-house manufactured goods stood at ₹51.3 crore, a growth of 3.7% over the same period last year but down by 17% from Q4 FY26. Revenue from contract manufacturing stood at ₹48.3 crore, marking a 9.6% growth on a year-on-year basis and a decline of 2.9% quarter-on-quarter.

Mr. Chitlangia noted that the gross margin improvement to 35.5% was a direct result of better product mix and efficiency built into manufacturing strategies over the last 18 months. However, he acknowledged that EBITDA fell to ₹4.82 crore, down 10.5% from Q1 FY26 and 7% from Q4 FY26. The EBITDA margin stood at 4.8% of sales, compared to 5.8% in the same period last year.

This compression in operating margins was driven by larger brand spend, which rose to close to 4% of sales in Q1FY27, up from 2.2% in the same quarter last year. Mr. Chitlangia described this as a conscious decision to increase brand visibility for medium-to-long-term benefits. He also highlighted that while growth numbers in Q1 were below expectations, the company anticipates growth to improve into double digits in Q2, supported by the increased brand investment.

What the Numbers Show

The reversal to profitability in Q1FY27 was largely supported by a sharp decline in tax expense relative to the prior quarter. While profit before tax decreased slightly from ₹131.02 lakh in Q4FY26 to ₹104.05 lakh in Q1FY27, the total tax expense fell dramatically from ₹348.71 lakh to ₹43.25 lakh. This indicates that the Q4FY26 loss was significantly impacted by high deferred tax charges (₹293.70 lakh), whereas the current quarter’s tax burden was substantially lower, allowing pre-tax profits to translate directly into net income.

Additionally, working capital management showed signs of easing pressure. The cash conversion cycle reduced to 109 days in Q1FY27 from 115 days in FY26, driven by a decrease in debtor days to 38 from 42, although inventory days increased to 164 from 145. Creditor days also elevated to 93 days against 72 days last year.

Management Appointments

During its meeting on August 12, 2026, the Board of Directors approved key management appointments:

  • Shashank Hissaria, President-Operations, has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer with effect from August 12, 2026, in addition to his existing responsibilities. He brings over three decades of experience with the company.
  • Karan Ahuja, Deputy General Manager–Marketing, has been designated as Senior Management Personnel effective the same date. He has over 15 years of experience in strategic marketing and brand management.

The Board also revised the composition of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, with Mr. Kulvin Suri serving as Chairman.

Auditor’s Note on Litigation

The statutory auditors, S K Agrawal and Co Chartered Accountants LLP, highlighted an emphasis of matter regarding an advance of ₹226.76 lakh recoverable from a company currently under litigation. No interest has been charged on this outstanding balance. The management considers the amount recoverable, and no provision for impairment or expected credit loss has been recognized in the financial results.
