Acrow has designed and supplied a modular steel bridge to maintain safe access during a bridge rehabilitation project in Brownsburg-Chatham, Quebec. The temporary structure was installed on Rue Principale over Rivière de l'Ouest to replace the aging Henri-Raby Bridge, which was closed in December 2024 for safety reasons. This solution ensures uninterrupted access for residents while the permanent replacement is planned and constructed.
The Henri-Raby Bridge, originally built in 1940, had reached the end of its service life and had been subject to load restrictions since 2022. The temporary bridge was supplied as a rental to contractor Maurécon Inc. and assembled and installed by Gelco Construction Inc. It measures 180 feet (54.86 m) in length and 18 feet (5.5 m) in width, featuring an epoxy aggregate deck designed to a Live Load of CL-625.
The installation utilized a crane assisted launch method to minimize environmental impact. The bridge accommodates both vehicles and pedestrians, carrying single-lane, bi-directional traffic controlled by a traffic signal. It is expected to remain in service throughout most of 2026.
"Acrow's modular steel bridge is providing a safe and reliable solution to maintaining access in Brownsburg-Chatham throughout this essential rehabilitation effort," said Jason Rosen, Business Development Manager, Quebec & Atlantic Region. "In addition to minimizing impacts to travelers, the temporary structure is allowing construction to proceed efficiently."
Oliver Radack, Director of Business Development & Operations, Acrow Canada, highlighted the speed of deployment. "Delivering a fully operational bridge within weeks highlights the rapid-response capabilities that modular steel solutions provide to agencies managing complex infrastructure projects."
