XPO Inc. (NYSE: XPO) announced that three of its drivers secured podium finishes at the 2026 National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC), hosted by the American Trucking Associations in Pittsburgh from August 11-14, 2026.
The competition featured 36 XPO drivers from 23 states, each qualifying by winning their state championships and maintaining an accident-free record for at least one year prior to the event.
Podium Finishers
Three XPO drivers earned top honors across different vehicle classes:
- Chris Poynor (Pasco, Washington): Placed first in the 3-Axle class. Poynor was named Grand Champion of the 2026 Washington Truck Driving Championships and previously won two national titles in the Twins class. He has driven more than two million consecutive accident-free miles over his 27-year career with XPO.
- Dave May (Buffalo, New York): Placed second in the Straight Truck class. A U.S. Army veteran, May made his 15th appearance at nationals and has served as a captain on America’s Road Team.
- Jeff Halford (Boise, Idaho): Placed third in the 3-Axle class. Halford has driven for XPO for more than 30 years and returned to nationals for the 14th time. He has also served as a captain on America’s Road Team.
Operational Context
Mario Harik, chairman and chief executive officer of XPO, highlighted the significance of these results for the company's operational culture.
"Congratulations to Chris, Dave and Jeff for their outstanding performances at NTDC," Harik said. "We’re proud of them and of all 36 XPO drivers who competed at nationals this year. Their skill, professionalism and commitment to safety represent the best of our industry."
XPO is a leader in asset-based less-than-truckload (LTL) freight transportation in North America. The company moves 16 billion pounds of freight per year, serving 55,000 customers through 586 locations with 38,000 employees in North America and Europe.
How might XPO leverage its strong safety record and driver accolades to negotiate better insurance premiums or attract top-tier talent in a competitive labor market?
Could the emphasis on veteran drivers and safety culture translate into measurable improvements in XPO's operational efficiency and on-time delivery metrics for Q3 2026?
Will XPO expand its internal training programs to replicate the success of its national champions, potentially reducing accident rates across its broader 38,000-employee workforce?
