Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz announced a new growth strategy centered on delivering a differentiated guest experience to drive loyalty and visitation. The "Epic Experience" vision spans a multi-year roadmap with immediate investments in food, lessons, gear, guest engagement, and talent. This shift follows the company's previous focus on the Epic Pass model and resort network expansion.
The company will prioritize five experience pillars to transform the end-to-end guest journey. These include reimagining rentals, elevating lessons, improving guest engagement, raising the bar on mountain food, and investing in top talent. Vail Resorts will maintain its industry-leading investments in lift infrastructure and snowmaking technology to ensure on-snow conditions remain a priority.
Reimagining Rentals and Lessons
Vail Resorts is integrating features from My Epic Gear into traditional rentals. This season, guests booking high-performance Demo rentals at 12 participating resorts can select their preferred ski or snowboard model and boots online before arrival. By the 2027/28 season, rental outlets will allow anyone to choose a specific gear model online or via the app, with options for fully prepped equipment pickup or delivery.
Private lessons are being redesigned to offer a more personalized experience. This winter at Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek, all private lessons will upgrade to Epic Ascent. This service includes concierge support for trip details like dining and transportation, white-glove gear rental, and enhanced customer support. Epic Ascent will expand to more destinations in the 2027/28 season.
Digital Engagement and Food Quality
The company is enhancing its digital tools to remove friction from the guest journey. Starting this fall, guests can purchase Passes, lift tickets, and share Epic Friend Tickets directly in the My Epic app. Apple Pay and Google Pay will be introduced, alongside existing features like Mobile Pass and lift line wait times. By the 2027/28 season, guests can purchase lessons and rentals in the app, with future AI-driven trip planning enhancements.
Vail Resorts is making a significant investment to improve mountain food across 15 destination resorts. Popular items like chili, burgers, and pizza will be upgraded with higher-quality ingredients and refined presentation. The company noted that these food improvements next season will not come with higher prices beyond normal inflation. New technology and processes will be implemented to reduce wait times and increase seating capacity.
Talent and Infrastructure Investments
Delivering an exceptional guest experience requires a strong frontline team. Following a $175 million investment in wages and benefits, Vail Resorts has focused on technology-enabled recruiting and staffing. These efforts have resulted in record guest satisfaction scores, increased seasonal employee return rates, and full staffing levels each season.
The company continues to invest aggressively in lift infrastructure and snowmaking technology. These investments aim to help guests move around the mountain faster and ensure the best possible early-season and in-season conditions. The Epic Experience strategy leverages Vail Resorts' position as the world's largest fully integrated ski resort company to influence every part of the guest journey.
