Ulta Beauty, Inc. (NASDAQ: ULTA) appointed Brieane Olson to its board of directors, effective August 31, 2026. The appointment adds a leader with extensive experience in specialty retail strategy and transformation to the company’s governance structure as it advances its Ulta Beauty Unleashed strategy.
Olson currently serves as the chief executive officer of Pacific Sunwear (PacSun), a private specialty retailer offering lifestyle apparel and related products. She has held this position since May 2023, having previously served as PacSun’s president since June 2021 and chief brand officer since July 2020. Her tenure at PacSun began in 2007, during which she held leadership roles including chief merchandising officer and senior vice president of merchandising and design.
Prior to joining PacSun, Olson held leadership positions with Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, and Valentino. She also serves on the board of directors of PacSun. Olson holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of California, Berkeley, a master’s degree in fashion from Istituto Marangoni in Italy, and has completed the advanced management program at Harvard Business School.

Kecia Steelman, president and chief executive officer of Ulta Beauty, stated that Olson’s insights into strategy execution, talent development, and long-term value creation will be invaluable to the board. Steelman highlighted Olson’s experience leading consumer retail organizations through periods of growth and transformation.

Olson fills the seat vacated by Kelly G. Garcia, who is transitioning to the role of Ulta Beauty’s chief technology officer. With this appointment, Ulta Beauty’s board will consist of 10 directors.
Ulta Beauty is the largest specialty beauty retailer in the U.S., operating more than 1,500 stores across the country. The company offers cosmetics, fragrance, skin care, hair care, wellness, and salon services. It is expanding its international presence through its subsidiary Space NK in the U.K. and Ireland, a joint venture in Mexico, and a franchise in the Middle East.
