Mahindra & Mahindra reported a 40.4% year-on-year increase in domestic sales for August 2026, reaching 104,009 units. The surge was primarily driven by robust demand in the utility vehicle segment, where sales jumped 45.3% compared to the previous year.

The company also recorded a 28.2% rise in total production, which stood at 114,737 units in August 2026 against 89,509 units in August 2025. Export volumes expanded significantly by 71.6% to 6,134 units, up from 3,575 units in the same period last year.

Utility Vehicle Segment Performance

Utility vehicles remained the core growth engine. Sales of the Thar and Thar Roxx models (combined diesel and petrol variants) totaled 10,464 units in August 2026, a sharp increase from 6,997 units in August 2025. The diesel variant alone saw sales rise from 6,205 to 9,789 units.

The Scorpio lineup posted strong numbers, with combined diesel and petrol sales reaching 15,576 units, up from 9,840 units a year earlier. The new XUV7XO contributed 8,541 units to sales, as the model was not present in the August 2025 data. The Electric Origin SUV saw sales more than double to 8,205 units from 3,864 units.

Commercial Vehicle Growth

Commercial vehicle sales, which include subsidiaries Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited and SML Mahindra Limited, rose 23.8% to 29,830 units from 24,101 units. Production in this segment increased 28.2% to 34,388 units.

Three-wheeler passenger vehicle sales grew modestly by 0.8% to 13,053 units, while goods carrier three-wheelers saw a decline in sales to 1,084 units from 1,141 units. However, production of goods carriers fell sharply to 955 units from 1,195 units.

What the Numbers Show

The data highlights a significant shift in product mix towards higher-margin utility vehicles and electric mobility. While total commercial vehicle production rose by over 7,000 units, sales grew by only 5,700 units, suggesting inventory buildup or supply chain adjustments in that segment. Conversely, the utility vehicle segment showed tighter alignment between production (+25,228 units) and sales (+32,332 units), indicating strong market absorption of newly manufactured units.

The company noted that utility vehicle sales include figures from subsidiary Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited. Three-wheeler figures include sales from Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited. The figures have not been independently verified or audited.
