ThredUp has launched the open beta of Direct Listing, a peer-to-peer (P2P) selling experience integrated into its existing online resale platform. The new service allows sellers to list individual high-value items directly while leveraging ThredUp's marketplace infrastructure. By combining its managed Clean Out services with instant P2P listing tools, the company aims to capture the full spectrum of resale needs and serve customers who seek both convenience and control.
Direct Listing offers several features designed to simplify the selling process and maximize earnings. Sellers benefit from 0% seller fees, retaining 100% of their earnings, and can utilize AI-powered "One-Tap" listing for background removal and auto-fill product details. ThredUp manages returns and customer disputes using its distribution centers and customer service logistics, while P2P listings are integrated directly into the primary marketplace to reach millions of active daily buyers.
James Reinhart, Co-Founder and CEO of ThredUp, stated that the expansion into a platform supporting various resale needs allows the company to meet customers where they are. He emphasized that the combination of marketplace scale, AI tools, and operational infrastructure creates a one-stop shop for resale that is easier and more trustworthy.
Beta testing for Direct Listing demonstrated strong performance, unlocking a new category of premium inventory. The service fueled double-digit month-over-month growth in both listings and orders. Nearly 18% of Direct Listings were priced above $100, and the average selling price reached $60, more than double the average on ThredUp's traditional marketplace. The test also revealed a sophisticated seller community, with 74% covering shipping costs and 29% covering returns to enhance the shopping experience.
The introduction of Direct Listing complements ThredUp's existing Clean Out Bag service, providing consumers with options for clearing entire closets or selling single items. This dual approach allows ThredUp to serve more selling occasions and supply buyers with a broader selection of secondhand inventory.
