SpiceJet has inducted three Airbus A320 aircraft into its fleet under damp lease arrangements to support network expansion and meet rising passenger demand. The additional capacity will enable the airline to enhance connectivity across key domestic routes and add more flights on existing services. All three aircraft have arrived in India and are scheduled to commence commercial operations later this week.

The induction on a damp lease basis provides the airline with greater operational flexibility while delivering significant cost efficiencies. This move is part of a broader planned capacity expansion aimed at building inventory ahead of the busy travel season. SpiceJet is currently in advanced discussions with other lessors to induct additional aircraft in the coming months as part of its fleet augmentation programme.

Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, SpiceJet, stated that the induction is aligned with the company's strategy to grow capacity in response to increasing demand. He emphasized that the aircraft will help improve connectivity and support the launch of new services, ensuring a wider choice of destinations for passengers.

Fleet Details

The airline operates a fleet of Boeing 737s and Q-400s and is an IATA-IOSA certified entity. The majority of its fleet offers SpiceMax, the most spacious economy-class seating in India.

India's Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a penalty of ₹100,000 on SpiceJet over misleading flight booking practices, marking a significant regulatory intervention in the country's aviation sector. The action highlights the government's continued focus on safeguarding consumer rights in the airline industry.
