Precision Electronics reported a widened standalone net loss for the first quarter of FY27, driven by a sharp decline in operating revenue that outpaced cost reductions. The company’s income from operations fell 40% year-on-year to ₹132.81 lakh for the three months ended June 30, 2026, down from ₹222.64 lakh in the corresponding period of FY26. Consequently, the net loss expanded to ₹235.88 lakh, compared to a net loss of ₹28.27 lakh in Q1FY26.
The deterioration in profitability was reflected in the profit before tax, which swung to a loss of ₹298.62 lakh from a loss of ₹38.58 lakh in the prior year quarter. While total expenses decreased 27% to ₹166.91 lakh, the drop was primarily due to a significant reduction in material costs, which fell to ₹33.26 lakh from ₹141.06 lakh a year ago. However, this saving was partially offset by higher finance costs, which rose to ₹16.48 lakh from ₹8.43 lakh, and increased other direct costs at ₹27.86 lakh versus ₹11.82 lakh previously.
Strategic Shifts and Asset Disposal
Alongside the financial results, the Board of Directors approved strategic operational changes aimed at restructuring the business footprint. The company has identified "Defence" as its new reportable operating segment, replacing "Telecom," effective from the current financial reporting period, in compliance with Ind AS 108. This shift aligns with the company's evolving revenue profile and business operations.
Additionally, the Board sought shareholder approval for the sale of its land and building in Noida, situated at Plot No. 10 & 11, Block-D, Sector-3. The property, admeasuring approximately 4,732.23 square meters, is no longer required for business operations as activities are being phased out and shifted to the company’s leasehold facility in Ballabhgarh, Faridabad. The disposal will be conducted at a price not less than the valuation by an independent registered valuer and will not involve related parties.
What the Numbers Show
A notable divergence in the cost structure highlights the impact of lower production volumes on fixed cost absorption. While variable costs like materials dropped significantly, employee benefit expenses remained relatively sticky at ₹32.62 lakh, up slightly from ₹23.57 lakh in Q1FY25. Similarly, depreciation and amortization expenses more than doubled to ₹10.95 lakh from ₹4.40 lakh, indicating that fixed overheads now constitute a larger proportion of the reduced revenue base, pressuring margins further during this low-volume quarter.
