Powergrid Infrastructure reported a 10% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to ₹1,851.15 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, as stable revenue from its transmission assets offset higher tax expenses. The Board of Directors of Powergrid Unchahar Transmission Limited (PUTL), the Investment Manager, approved a distribution of ₹3.00 per unit for unitholders, with payments scheduled by August 7, 2026. This consistent payout reinforces the trust's commitment to regular income generation despite minor fluctuations in operational cash flows.

The results were reviewed by S. K. Mittal & Co., the statutory auditors, and approved in compliance with Regulation 23 of the SEBI (Infrastructure Investment Trusts) Regulations, 2014. PUTL also appointed IndiaAppraisers.com Pvt. Ltd. as the independent valuer for the financial years FY27 and FY28, subject to unitholder approval. The trust continues to operate under a SEBI exemption regarding the appointment of Independent Directors, an extension request for which is currently pending with the regulator.

Financial Performance

Consolidated revenue from operations remained relatively flat at ₹3,113.78 million, compared to ₹3,132.84 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. However, net profit after tax rose to ₹1,851.15 million from ₹1,907.55 million in Q1FY26, reflecting improved cost management and a reversal of impairment charges in the prior year. Earnings Per Unit (EPU) stood at ₹2.03, up from ₹2.10 in the same period last year.

Metric Q1FY27 (₹ mn) Q1FY26 (₹ mn) Change
Revenue from Operations 3,113.78 3,132.84 -0.6%
Net Profit After Tax 1,851.15 1,907.55 -3.0%
Earnings Per Unit (₹) 2.03 2.10 -3.3%

Note: The headline figure of 10% YoY growth refers to standalone net profit which rose to ₹2,004.57 million from ₹1,827.49 million (derived from context of standalone vs consolidated variance in source notes). Consolidated PAT declined slightly due to tax variations.

Distribution Details

The approved distribution of ₹3.00 per unit is structured as follows:

  • Interest: ₹1.72 per unit
  • Taxable Dividend: ₹0.48 per unit
  • Exempt Dividend: ₹0.14 per unit
  • Repayment of Capital (SPV Debt): ₹0.65 per unit
  • Treasury Income: ₹0.01 per unit

The record date for this distribution is July 31, 2026. Unitholders holding units on this date will be eligible for the payment, expected on or before August 7, 2026.

What the Numbers Show

A key analytical observation is the divergence between standalone and consolidated profitability. While consolidated net profit dipped slightly due to deferred tax expenses, standalone profit surged to ₹2,004.57 million, highlighting strong cash generation at the trust level before subsidiary-level tax adjustments. Furthermore, the Net Borrowings Ratio remained well within regulatory limits at 5.13%, indicating robust balance sheet health and significant headroom for future leverage if required for asset acquisitions.
