Environmental Performance

NMDC Steel reported total energy consumption of 71,349,852.88 GJ, primarily from non-renewable sources. This represents an increase from 60,589,083.62 GJ in FY25. However, energy intensity per rupee of turnover improved to 0.000523 GJ/INR, down from 0.000713 GJ/INR in the previous year.

Greenhouse gas emissions rose significantly. Total Scope 1 emissions reached 77,87,876.89 tCO2, up from 55,74,359.00 tCO2 in FY25. Scope 2 emissions were recorded at 5,56,997.84 tCO2. The combined emission intensity per rupee of turnover was 0.000061 tCO2/INR.

The company maintains a Centralized Zero Liquid Discharge (CZLD) system, recovering approximately 90% of water for reuse. Total water consumption increased to 13,820.87 megalitres from 9,307.43 megalitres in FY25.

Employee Safety and Well-being

NMDC Steel employs 1,389 executives and 1,391 workers. The company reported one fatality among workers in FY26, compared to none in FY25. The Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) for workers was 0.10 per million person-hours worked, down from 0.15 in FY25.

Spending on employee well-being measures accounted for 1.00% of total revenue, slightly lower than the 1.12% spent in FY25. The company provides health and accident insurance coverage to 100% of its permanent employees and workers.

The company reported accounts payable days at 168.00, an improvement from 177.75 days in FY25. Purchases from related parties constituted 32.49% of total purchases, marginally lower than the 32.60% recorded in FY25.

NMDC Steel paid a penalty of ₹1.01 crore to the Chhattisgarh Environment Department for non-compliance related to Sewage Treatment Plant construction. No fines were paid for corruption or conflict of interest cases.
