Casey’s General Stores, Inc. has unveiled a new three-year strategic plan designed to accelerate growth in its food and beverage segment, expand its physical footprint, and enhance operational efficiency. The plan builds on the company's performance since 2023, during which it exceeded strategic and financial targets, added more than 500 stores, and joined the S&P 500. Darren Rebelez, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated that the priorities aim to gain market share and deliver long-term value for shareholders.
Strategic Priorities
The new strategy is centered on three main pillars. The first priority involves accelerating the food and beverage business. Casey’s intends to continue investing in made-to-order offerings, such as pizza and chicken wings, and plans to expand its private-brand portfolio. Tom Brennan, Chief Merchandising Officer, highlighted that prepared foods and nonalcoholic beverages are driving strong inside sales, noting that in Des Moines, where wings have been available for over a year, sales are up 20% year over year.
Store Expansion and Efficiency
The second priority focuses on expanding Casey’s Country and scale. The company plans to add at least 400 stores through a combination of strategic acquisitions and new-store development. Ena Williams, Chief Operations Officer, cited the successful integration of CEFCO, the company's largest acquisition to date, as evidence of its ability to grow through both new stores and acquisitions.
The third priority is enhancing operational efficiency through technology and data-driven tools. Investments will focus on improving forecasting, inventory planning, and the guest experience. Initiatives include using AI for forecasting, redesigning kitchens to reduce friction, and enhancing digital tools like the Casey’s app and rewards program.
