Hyundai Motor India is positioning for accelerated growth through both domestic sales recovery and continued export momentum following GST rate cuts. The company's domestic sales declined 11.2% to 2,20,233 units in April-August, while exports grew 12.45% to 80,740 units in the same period. Whole-time Director Tarun Garg stated that during the domestic market slowdown over the past six to eight months, the company increased focus on exports due to capacity constraints that previously limited their dual-market approach. The company expects GST reforms to boost both rural and urban market sentiment, driving domestic sales recovery. To support this dual growth strategy, Hyundai's Talegaon plant in Maharashtra will add 1.7 lakh units capacity in October, increasing total annual capacity from 8.24 lakh to 9.94 lakh units. An additional 80,000 units capacity is planned for the Talegaon facility by FY28, bringing total capacity to nearly 11 lakh units annually. Export revenue contribution has increased from 21% last year to 27% in the first quarter of this fiscal.
Hyundai Motor India's Chief Operating Officer Tarun Garg expressed confidence in retaining market share as the company prepares for increased festive season demand following recent GST reforms. The company was among the first to pass full GST benefits to customers, with price cuts of up to Rs 2.4 lakh. Despite high inventory levels from slower sales in recent months, Hyundai views this as an opportunity to boost bookings ahead of the festive season. Garg noted that while rural markets have been the growth engine, increasing from 19% to 23% of total sales contribution, urban markets are expected to benefit from the GST cuts. The company anticipates strong performance in the sub-Rs 10 lakh SUV segment and is offering additional customer incentives beyond the GST benefits. Hyundai has maintained the second-largest market share in India after Maruti Suzuki for two decades and operates in the country for 29 years.
Hyundai Motor reported August sales of 60,500 units, representing a decline from 63,200 units sold in the same period last year. The sales figures aligned with market estimates.
