Nokia Corporation (NYSE: NOK) shares rose nearly 5% in Thursday premarket trading to $10.71, following news that the company extended its partnership with Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT). The move came against a risk-on backdrop, with S&P 500 futures up 0.8%. Nokia shares have gained nearly 70% in 2026.
The collaboration aims to develop an agentic, unified data foundation that accelerates network automation for telecommunication providers. The solution integrates Nokia Data Suite with Microsoft Fabric to support faster, reliable AI-driven operations.
From fragmented data to scalable autonomy
The solution combines Nokia’s ready-to-use telco data products with Microsoft Fabric’s unified analytics and governance capabilities. This integration allows operators to access high-quality, trusted data in minutes rather than weeks, significantly reducing the time required for complex data integration and insight generation.
Nokia Data Suite provides prebuilt, reusable telco data products featuring glass-box data quality controls and telco-specific semantic modeling. These features ensure transparency and explainability in AI-driven decisions. Microsoft Fabric contributes a unified data platform with OneLake storage, analytics tools, and AI-native applications such as Microsoft 365 Copilot, Foundry, and Power BI.
By integrating these capabilities, operators can transition from fragmented data environments to a more autonomous, scalable model. Nokia’s data products can be provisioned on demand and combined with Microsoft Fabric’s enterprise, IT, and third-party data sources. This enables broader AI use cases, including automated root-cause analysis and closed-loop operations to improve service quality and efficiency.
The solution is designed for multi-vendor, cross-domain telecom environments and supports hybrid and cloud infrastructures, including on-premises deployments. This flexibility allows operators to meet regulatory requirements while advancing AI and automation strategies globally.
Initial use cases and deployment
The collaboration builds on Nokia and Microsoft’s existing partnership in cloud, data, AI, and cybersecurity. The solution is available now, with ongoing expansion of autonomous network use cases. Initial go-to-market examples include:
- Autonomous VoNR assurance to detect and remedy service issues, where agents identify anomalies, run root cause analyses, and recommend actions with 360-degree observability across network, service, and subscriber domains.
- Geo-experience, which uses AI and machine learning to map RAN subscriber sessions to precise geographic locations. This capability identifies users experiencing degraded radio performance and pinpoints coverage or capacity hotspots by correlating subscriber, network, and RF data.
- Predictive maintenance and fault management, where agents analyze historical and real-time data to anticipate network issues before they impact customers.
Throughout this process, AI-driven operational assistants act as copilots for network engineers. They provide contextual insights, recommended actions, and automated workflow execution across complex, cross-domain environments. This approach allows operators to achieve higher levels of network autonomy while maintaining human oversight within clearly defined governance boundaries.
AI-RAN and optical network catalysts
The development builds on Nokia’s AI-RAN strategy. Eight operators are advancing trials, while the platform has demonstrated more than 20% spectral-efficiency gains. Further software improvements are planned for 2027 and 2028.
Nokia is running AI-RAN trials across Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East as Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA) pushes AI deeper into radio networks. Separately, Nokia will deploy ICE-X 800G ZR/ZR+ coherent pluggable optics with Telxius across networks in Europe, the U.S. and Latin America. The 800G rollout includes automation for network provisioning, fault monitoring and performance management.
Technical setup and analyst outlook
Nokia’s 20-day SMA of $10.23 remains above its 50-day SMA of $10.21, while the 50-day average is above the 200-day SMA of $9.76. At $10.61, shares were 3.8% above the 20-day SMA and about 4% above the 50-day average. The stock remains 11.7% below its 100-day SMA of $12.02. RSI stands at 48.62, indicating neutral momentum. The $10.50 area is being tested in premarket trading, while support sits near $9.50.
Nokia is scheduled to report earnings Oct. 22. Analysts expect EPS of 8 cents, up from 7 cents a year earlier, on revenue of $5.81 billion versus $5.64 billion. The stock carries a Buy consensus rating with an average price forecast of $17. Rosenblatt recently initiated coverage with Buy and a $15 target. JPMorgan has an Overweight rating and $21 target, while Argus Research rates Nokia Buy with a $15 target.
How might the integration of Nokia Data Suite with Microsoft Fabric impact the competitive landscape for other telecom infrastructure vendors lacking similar AI-native partnerships?
Will the projected 20% spectral-efficiency gains from AI-RAN trials translate into measurable ROI for operators by the time of the 2027 software improvements?
How could the rollout of 800G coherent optics with Telxius influence Nokia's market share in the high-capacity optical networking segment against rivals like Ciena and Infinera?
