Canada officials to update 2026 wildfire season forecast

The Honourable Eleanor Olszewski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience and Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada, along with Parliamentary Secretaries Ginette Lavack and Corey Hogan, will provide an update on the forecast for the 2026 wildfire season. The announcement aims to inform the public about the expected conditions and preparedness measures for the upcoming season.
Prior to the press conference, Government of Canada officials will host an embargoed media technical briefing to discuss the seasonal outlook for wildfires. Journalists attending the briefing will have the opportunity to ask questions on a "for attribution" basis. All information and materials shared during the briefing will remain under embargo until the Ministerial press conference begins at 12:15 p.m. EDT.
The media technical briefing and press conference are scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2026. The technical briefing will take place at 11:00 a.m. EDT, followed by the press conference at 12:15 p.m. EDT. Both events will be held at the National Press Theatre, located at 180 Wellington Street, Room 325, Ottawa, Ontario.
Participation in both the technical briefing and media availability is available in person and virtually, but is limited to accredited members of the Press Gallery.
