Palladyne AI Corp. (NASDAQ: PDYN) shares rose 7.54% to $6.42 Wednesday after the company announced it was awarded a pair of U.S. Army contracts to research, develop, and operationally validate its SwarmOS autonomous swarm technology and Gremlin-X mini-bomber UAV. The contracts were competitively selected under the Army's Disruptive Applications Broad Agency Announcement, marking a shift from evaluation to funded operational use in the field. This development positions Palladyne AI's technology for potential programs of record by validating its autonomous capabilities against active Army requirements.

Contract Scope and Exercises

Under the contracts, Palladyne AI will demonstrate SwarmOS and Gremlin-X across a series of U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division (4ID) exercises in Colorado and California. These engagements will evaluate SwarmOS in direct support of 4ID Reconnaissance and Target Acquisition mission requirements. The system will operate on Army-specified platforms via the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK), the Army's widely deployed command-and-control interface. Additionally, Palladyne AI will demonstrate SwarmOS, IntelliSwarm, and Gremlin-X at Northern Strike 26-2, a premier Department of War joint exercise involving more than 9,000 participants.

SwarmOS Capabilities

SwarmOS is an edge AI autonomy and collaborative autonomy software stack that enables a single operator to command an entire team of autonomous unmanned systems from multiple manufacturers simultaneously. This cross-platform, decentralized capability is protected by Palladyne AI's patent portfolio. The system operates on edge hardware in degraded and denied communications environments without dependence on centralized infrastructure that adversaries can target.

Gremlin-X Specifications

GuideTech is advancing Gremlin-X, formerly known as Banshee, as a low-cost, reusable Group 2 strike Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). The vehicle is designed to provide small, dispersed formations with an affordable means to engage time-critical targets without requiring centralized control or expendable airframes per strike. As a reusable but attritable multirotor UAV, Gremlin-X delivers munitions with precision in denied, degraded, intermittent, and limited (DDIL) environments and can return for reuse, driving recurring costs down by prioritizing munition expense over platform replacement.
