NiSource Inc. announced that the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) has approved key agreements supporting its partnership with Amazon to serve new data center development in northern Indiana. The regulatory approvals are expected to deliver approximately $1.4 billion in savings for existing NIPSCO customers, marking a significant milestone in the company's strategy to support large-load growth while protecting existing ratepayers from associated costs.

On June 17, the IURC fully approved the settlement agreement, Amazon special contract and related power purchase agreement. In a separate order, the Commission also approved NiSource’s proposed generation resources, which include combined-cycle gas turbines and battery energy storage systems.

The approved framework is designed so that data center customers fund the generation and transmission infrastructure required to serve their needs. This structure supports affordability, reliability and long-term value for existing NIPSCO customers, who are expected to benefit directly from the addition of new, large electric load through bill credits as those customers ramp up operations.

As part of the settlement, the parties agreed to support expedited procedural schedules for future agreements. This reinforces the model’s competitive speed-to-market advantage and positions Indiana as a leader in utility and technology collaboration.
