CEAT has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in a bid-rigging investigation related to 2019 state transport undertaking tenders.

CCI ruling on bid-rigging investigation

The CCI passed an order dated August 21, 2026, concluding the matter. The regulator found no contravention on the part of CEAT Limited in the alleged bid-rigging case concerning procurement tenders of State Transport Undertaking(s). This investigation pertained to tenders floated in 2019.

The CCI's clearance brings closure to the regulatory scrutiny that CEAT faced in connection with the state transport tender process. The ruling confirms that the company was not found to have engaged in any bid-rigging activity as alleged in the investigation.

CEAT Limited has received an order from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Maharashtra, temporarily suspending its licence to procure methanol. The suspension is scheduled to take effect from September 1, 2026 to September 15, 2026. This regulatory development follows alleged violations of competent person norms under the Maharashtra Poisons Rules, 1972.

The company disclosed the receipt of the order on August 19, 2026, pursuant to Regulation 30 and 51 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The FDA Maharashtra issued the communication to the company’s authorized officers on August 18, 2026.

The suspension cites alleged contraventions under Rules 9 and 11 of the Maharashtra Poisons Rules, 1972, specifically relating to license conditions concerning competent person norms. Methanol is a critical chemical used in the company’s industrial and manufacturing processes for tyre production.

Operational impact

CEAT stated that the suspension order has not yet become effective as of the disclosure date. The company confirmed that it has already made alternate arrangements to procure methanol in compliance with applicable rules. Furthermore, CEAT noted that the issues raised in the suspension order have been addressed by the company.

Accordingly, management anticipates no material adverse impact on the company’s financial position, operations, or overall business activities during the suspension period.
