Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) launched iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, priced at $1,999. The device features a 7.6-inch inner display and the A20 Pro chip, addressing design flaws in earlier foldables.

John Ternus stated the goal was to avoid devices that feel like "two phones awkwardly stuck together." Pre-orders begin October 16, with availability starting October 23 in over 70 countries.

Design and Display

iPhone Duo features a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display and a 7.6-inch inner display. The inner screen offers 50% more area than the iPhone 18 Pro Max and 80% more than the iPhone 18 Pro. Both screens share matching aspect ratios for visual continuity.

The device uses grade 5 titanium with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, providing 3x better scratch resistance. It holds an IP68 rating. The hinge contains more than 100 precision components, keeping the inner screen flat when open.

Performance and Battery

Powered by the A20 Pro chip, iPhone Duo delivers up to 35% better sustained performance than iPhone 17 Pro. It includes Apple’s C2 cellular modem, which is up to 50% faster than the C1X and uses up to 15% less battery.

Battery life reaches up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and 44 hours on the outer display. Using both displays equally offers up to 24 hours of usage. Fast charging reaches 50% in about 20 minutes.

Camera and AI Features

The camera system includes a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. New features include Smart Take, which uses on-device AI to automatically capture photos when subjects are posing.

iOS 27 introduces Siri AI, rolling out in beta starting September 14. Features include Spatial Reframing and Image Playground. The outer display houses a 12MP Center Stage camera, while the inner display gets a new FaceTime camera.

Pricing and Availability

Accessories include the iPhone Duo Case at $79 and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand at $129. Apple Pencil support is coming later this year.

Battery life improvements are significant. eSIM-only models deliver up to 36 hours of video playback on the iPhone 18 Pro and up to 45 hours on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The Pro Max model provides up to 30 hours of usage on a full charge based on a new battery usage model.

Software and AI Features
