Crews are deploying portable generators to restore network sites primarily impacted by widespread commercial power outages. The carrier’s Self-Optimizing Network (SON) technology has automatically executed more than 160 network adjustments since the storm began, optimizing coverage as site availability changes.
Satellite Connectivity Surge
T-Satellite with Starlink has become a critical connectivity lifeline for customers with compatible devices. Since T-Mobile extended access ahead of Lala, nearly 29,000 text messages have been exchanged via satellite. Usage spiked significantly during the storm's peak; on Sunday alone, 6,200 customers exchanged more than 17,000 messages. The service also enabled Text-to-911 capabilities and the delivery of Wireless Emergency Alerts to compatible devices in affected areas.
Customer and Community Support
To assist residents during the recovery phase, T-Mobile activated unlimited talk, text, and data while waiving overages through August 22 for Postpaid and Prepaid, Metro, Assurance Wireless, USCellular, Mint, and Ultra customers across the state. Community Support teams have deployed to Hilo on the Big Island to provide connectivity and charging solutions, supplementing existing resources positioned across Oʻahu, Maui, Kauaʻi, and Hawaiʻi Island.
First Responder Coordination
T-Mobile continues coordinating with the Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency (HIEMA), FEMA, CISA, and local civil defense agencies. West Maui has been identified by emergency officials as a priority restoration area due to its geography and key transportation routes. For eligible first responders and public safety agencies, T-Mobile is providing 30 days of T-Priority and T-Satellite access at no charge on unlocked, compatible devices, along with loaner devices where needed.
