Sompo has appointed Henry MacHale as Chief Underwriting Officer and Head of Strategy for its International Markets insurance business to strengthen underwriting performance and enhance governance across 22 countries. Mr MacHale, previously Group Chief Strategy Officer at Aspen, will be based in London and report to Alessa Quane, Chief Executive Officer, International Markets.

Strategic Focus

In his new role, Mr MacHale will work closely with regional underwriting leaders and teams to drive strong underwriting performance. He will set global underwriting policy and partner to ensure the implementation of pricing and underwriting risk control frameworks. Additionally, he will collaborate with regional CEOs to develop the International Markets strategy, focusing on organic and inorganic growth opportunities.

Alessa Quane, Chief Executive Officer, International Markets, highlighted the significance of the appointment. She stated that Mr MacHale brings a strong track record in underwriting specialty products and strategic leadership. Ms Quane emphasized that his experience will be invaluable in strengthening underwriting performance, enhancing governance and risk controls, and sharpening the strategic focus across regions.
