KFin Technologies and the Association of Portfolio Managers in India (APMI) have launched InPro, an intelligent Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and compliance operations platform for India's Portfolio Management Services (PMS) industry. The initiative establishes a common technology backbone for screening, monitoring, and case management across the sector.

The platform was officially launched by Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), at APMI's 3rd Annual Conference in Mumbai on October 1, 2026. APMI has adopted InPro as the central AML compliance platform for its members, providing portfolio managers access to shared infrastructure for managing AML alerts.

Addressing evolving AML compliance needs

AML compliance is shifting beyond point-in-time onboarding checks, as investor profiles and risk indicators can change throughout the customer lifecycle. New sanctions listings, changes in customer information, politically exposed person (PEP) connections, or adverse media developments can introduce new risk signals after initial onboarding. This necessitates continuous monitoring, timely review, and the ability to demonstrate the basis for compliance decisions.

InPro addresses these requirements by enabling PMS providers to screen investor profiles against global sanctions lists, Indian debarment lists, PEP databases, regulatory watchlists, and adverse media sources. Screening occurs during onboarding and subsequently when key customer information or relevant risk indicators change.

Platform features and workflow

The platform integrates several critical functions into a single operating environment to streamline compliance operations.

Feature Description
Screening Checks against global sanctions, debarment lists, PEPs, and adverse media
Case Management Structured Maker Checker workflow for reviewing alerts and resolving false positives
Audit Trails Historical visibility into screening activity, review actions, and decisions
Decisioning Near real-time decisioning with downstream action enablement via system integrations

Potential matches are routed through a structured Maker Checker workflow, allowing compliance teams to review alerts, resolve potential false positives, escalate cases, and record the basis for their decisions. InPro maintains historical visibility into screening activity, providing an audit-ready record for regulatory and internal reviews.

Industry-wide adoption and benefits

APMI's industry-level adoption of InPro enables members to leverage common infrastructure and economies of scale. This allows portfolio managers, including emerging and boutique firms, to access structured AML screening and monitoring capabilities without independently building and maintaining the entire technology infrastructure.

Sreekanth Nadella, Managing Director & CEO, KFin Technologies Limited, stated that the next phase of financial market infrastructure will be defined by how effectively trust and compliance are embedded into the ecosystem. He noted that AML cannot remain a point-in-time check when investor profiles and risk signals can change throughout the customer lifecycle.

Vikas Khemani, Chairman, Association of Portfolio Managers in India (APMI), emphasized that strong governance and robust compliance infrastructure are fundamental to building a resilient and investor-centric ecosystem. The adoption aims to make technology-enabled AML capabilities more accessible to portfolio managers across the industry, irrespective of their scale.
