CME Group reported a record June average daily volume (ADV) of 30.6 million contracts, marking a 19% increase year-over-year. The derivatives marketplace also achieved its second-highest Q2 volume ever, with an ADV of 29.8 million contracts. The performance was driven by all-time monthly records in equity index and agricultural products, alongside broad-based growth across asset classes.
June 2026 Performance Highlights
Equity Index ADV surged 54% to a record 10.1 million contracts. Interest Rate ADV increased 17% to 13.6 million contracts, while Agricultural ADV rose 8% to a record 2.3 million contracts. Metals ADV grew 12% to 967,000 contracts, and Foreign Exchange ADV increased 6% to 1.2 million contracts. Cryptocurrency ADV jumped 76% to 334,000 contracts, representing a notional value of $10.7 billion.
Key Drivers in June
Micro products played a significant role in the volume growth. Micro E-mini Equity Index futures and options ADV reached 5.1 million contracts, representing 50% of overall Equity Index ADV. Record Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 futures ADV hit 3.2 million contracts. Micro Gold futures ADV increased 33% to 342,000 contracts, and Micro Silver futures ADV soared 191% to 69,000 contracts.
Q2 2026 Quarterly Overview
Q2 ADV reached 29.8 million contracts. Equity Index ADV for the quarter stood at 8.6 million contracts, up 13%. Interest Rate ADV was 14.5 million contracts. Agricultural ADV increased 6% to 2.1 million contracts. Cryptocurrency ADV for the quarter rose 32% to 250,000 contracts, with a notional value of $13.7 billion.
Operational Metrics
BrokerTec overall average daily notional value (ADNV) increased 17% to $1.078 trillion in June. EBS Spot FX ADNV rose 7% to $68 billion. Customer average collateral balances for the rolling three-month period ending May 2026 were $150.7 billion for cash collateral and $173.4 billion for non-cash collateral.
