Electric passenger cars emerged as the standout performer, recording exceptional growth of 77.04% to reach 1,76,817 units in 2025. This dramatic increase from 99,975 units in the previous year has elevated the EV market share in passenger vehicles to approximately 4%, up from 2.4% in 2024.

This growth has pushed the EV share in commercial vehicles to 1.55%, indicating growing acceptance of electric solutions in commercial applications.
Electric three-wheelers continued their dominance in the segment, with retail sales rising 15.39% to 7,97,733 units. The three-wheeler category now commands an impressive 60.9% EV market share, demonstrating the strong economics of electric vehicles in last-mile mobility solutions.
Two-Wheeler Segment Maintains Steady Growth
Electric two-wheeler sales registered steady growth of 11.36%, reaching 12,79,951 units compared to 11,49,416 units in 2024. The segment has achieved a 6.3% EV share, reflecting consistent consumer adoption in the personal mobility space.
Industry Outlook and Infrastructure Needs
CS Vigneshwar, President of FADA, emphasized that India's electrification journey has moved beyond the pilot phase and is now scaling across segments. He highlighted that the transition is being powered by improving product choices and total cost of ownership benefits.
The association stressed the importance of coordinated efforts in charging infrastructure development, policy continuity, and faster, more inclusive retail financing to make EV adoption more mainstream and accessible across India. These factors are considered crucial for sustaining the current growth momentum and expanding electric vehicle penetration in the Indian market.
