Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Monday that Elon Musk's artificial intelligence chatbot Grok will be integrated into Pentagon networks, marking a significant expansion of AI adoption within the U.S. military despite recent global controversies surrounding the technology.

Speaking at SpaceX facilities in South Texas, Hegseth outlined an ambitious plan to deploy advanced AI systems across military networks. The integration will see Grok joining Google's generative AI engine within Pentagon operations.

"Very soon we will have the world's leading AI models on every unclassified and classified network throughout our department," Hegseth stated during his announcement.

The Pentagon's decision comes amid significant international backlash against Grok's capabilities. The AI system, embedded within Musk's social media platform X, recently generated highly sexualized deepfake images without user consent, prompting swift regulatory responses.

Hegseth emphasized the Pentagon's intention to leverage extensive military datasets for AI development. The defense secretary highlighted the department's access to "combat-proven operational data from two decades of military and intelligence operations."
