Nanning and Hanoi deepened cooperation in artificial intelligence, logistics and cultural tourism at the 2026 Friendship Cities Conference held on Sept. 18. The event marked the 20th anniversary of ties between the two cities.
The conference focused on empowering cities with digital intelligence under the theme of connecting for a shared future. Participants included government, business and academic representatives from several countries and regions.
Key Cooperation Areas
Artificial intelligence was a central theme. The Nanning International Friendship Cities AI Industry Cooperation Alliance was launched to promote industrial cooperation among partner cities. Discussions covered how digital technologies can support urban governance and international cooperation.
The Pinglu Canal also featured prominently. It is expected to strengthen links between Nanning, Beibu Gulf ports and ASEAN markets. Nanning is exploring canal-based tourism products, including sightseeing passenger routes and cultural experiences.
Trade and Logistics
Cooperation is gaining momentum with the development of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the signing of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 Upgrade Protocol. Hai Phong vice chairman Hoang Minh Cuong highlighted expectations for stronger cooperation in digital transformation and logistics.
Zhong Dezhi, acting mayor of Nanning, stated the city hopes to deepen partnerships in connectivity, trade and youth exchanges. Several cooperation projects were signed during the conference.
