Ripple is implementing a four-stage roadmap to prepare the XRP Ledger for potential quantum-computing threats, even as XRP faces near-term downside risk after rejecting $1.55 resistance.

Ripple Senior Director of Engineering Ayo Akinyele told CoinDesk that the company is preparing the ledger before quantum technology becomes powerful enough to break current cryptographic protections. Researchers refer to the scenario where advanced quantum computers derive private keys from public information as "Q-Day."

Four-Stage Roadmap For Q-Day

The plan begins with identifying vulnerabilities and testing quantum-resistant cryptography. It progresses to running existing and new security systems in parallel before migrating the broader network. The roadmap includes an emergency upgrade path if quantum computing advances faster than expected.

The XRP Ledger already allows users to replace account keys without changing the underlying account. Network-wide changes would still require coordination among independent validators.

XRP’s Rejection At $1.55

Crypto trader Crypto Patel said on X on Aug. 31 that XRP rejected the $1.55 resistance after briefly sweeping liquidity above the level. Aggressive selling followed, sending prices nearly 20% lower. Patel noted that XRP has not yet confirmed a bullish breakout and needs weekly acceptance above its recent high.

If resistance holds, Patel sees $0.90 to $0.70 as the next major downside zone. Longer term, he still sees $10 as possible.

Over the past month, XRP has gained 30%, despite falling 8% over the past seven days.

What the Numbers Show

XRP’s price action shows significant volatility within a short timeframe. The asset gained 30% over the past month but fell 8% in the last seven days, including a nearly 20% drop following the rejection at $1.55. This divergence highlights the tension between longer-term momentum and immediate technical resistance levels identified by traders.

How might the coordination requirements for network-wide quantum-resistant upgrades impact validator participation and XRP Ledger decentralization?

What is Ripple's estimated timeline for completing the four-stage roadmap, and how does it align with projected advancements in quantum computing capabilities?

If XRP fails to hold the $0.90 support level, what specific technical or fundamental factors could trigger a deeper correction toward $0.70?

U.S. spot XRP exchange-traded funds recorded $110.49 million in net inflows during the week ending August 28. This marks the first time weekly inflows have exceeded $100 million since the week ending December 5, 2025.

The latest capital additions lifted cumulative net inflows to $1.66 billion, while total net assets reached $1.44 billion. On August 28 alone, XRP ETFs attracted $26.20 million, led by Bitwise’s XRP ETF with $15.40 million.

Technical Outlook

Analyst Ali Martinez noted that XRP broke above key resistance near $1.40 on the hourly chart. He identified $1.70 as the next target level. Martinez previously marked the $1.35-$1.38 range as a main demand zone, where approximately 3.2 billion XRP changed hands. Holding this area is critical for maintaining the breakout structure.

Further resistance levels are situated at $1.60, $1.68, and $1.86. A move above $1.86 could open a path toward $2.19, a level where another 3.12 billion XRP previously traded.

Macro Structure

EGRAG Crypto highlighted that XRP is approaching a retest of its 300-week moving average, currently near $1.03 and rising. A decline toward $1-$1.10 would not automatically invalidate the bullish structure, provided the asset reclaims and holds the moving average.

His macro roadmap outlines the following expansion targets:

  • $1.65 — first major reclaim
  • $2 to $2.80 — structural resistance zone
  • $15, $27, $50 — longer-term targets as the channel opens

What the Numbers Show

The divergence between cumulative net inflows ($1.66 billion) and total net assets ($1.44 billion) suggests significant trading activity or fee deductions within the ETF structures since inception. The concentration of daily inflows, with Bitwise accounting for nearly 60% of the single-day volume on August 28, indicates heavy reliance on specific fund issuers for institutional or retail entry points.

How might the heavy reliance on Bitwise for XRP ETF inflows impact market stability if other issuers fail to capture similar institutional interest?

What are the potential implications for XRP's price trajectory if it fails to hold the critical $1.35-$1.38 demand zone identified by analysts?

Could the divergence between cumulative net inflows and total net assets signal structural inefficiencies or high trading costs that might deter future long-term institutional investment?
