Roblox Corporation today announced Build, a new mobile-first creation tab within the Roblox app that allows creators to turn text prompts into playable games. Powered by a broad set of AI models, Build handles gameplay mechanics, environment, characters, visual style, and sound without requiring users to leave the app. This initiative aims to lower the barrier to entry for creators of all experience levels by extending the capabilities of Roblox Studio into the main mobile application.
Build enables anyone to generate a basic game by typing a description, such as a request for a cozy adventure game set in a dense forest. The system creates a playable starting point that creators can iterate on, playtest, and share. The tool shares a back end, models, and chat history with Roblox Studio, allowing creators to start work in Build and enhance their projects using Studio's broader capabilities or launch agents from Studio to monitor progress on mobile devices.
New Agentic Tools
Roblox is testing agentic tools across Build and Studio to help creators delegate development tasks. These tools, available in the coming months, include:
- Playtesting agent: Surfaces bugs before players experience the game.
- Analytics agent: Allows creators to ask questions about game performance in plain language.
- Experiment agent: Identifies tests to drive higher engagement, retention, and monetization.
Vlad Loktev, Chief Creator Ecosystem Officer at Roblox, stated that the new tools remove friction for professional creators while opening the door to creation for everyone on the platform.
Existing and Upcoming AI Features
The company recently launched Procedural Models, which generate parametric 3D assets from text prompts or images, and Cube, a 3D foundation model that creates game-ready objects. Roblox plans to launch a new scene-generation model capable of building entire editable and playable 3D scenes from a single prompt.
Rollout and Availability
Select features will be available in public alpha to users in New Zealand beginning July 28. Roblox will roll out Build to more creators and regions over the coming months. During testing, Build will be available to age-checked users 9 and older. Published games passing safety checks will be globally available for age-checked users 16 and older. A base-level version of Build will be free, with additional paid options for power users.
