Hyundai Motor India Limited reported its highest-ever monthly total sales of 75,360 units in July, marking a robust 25.4% year-on-year growth compared to 60,073 units in the same period last year. The result significantly surpassed analyst estimates of 49,000 units, underscoring strong consumer demand across both domestic and international markets and reinforcing the company's position in the Indian automotive sector.

The sales figure comprises domestic sales of 54,210 units, which grew 23.3% year-on-year to set a new high for any July. Additionally, export sales reached 21,150 units, up 31.4% year-on-year, representing the highest monthly export volume recorded by the company in more than 100 months. Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited, attributed the performance to immense consumer trust in the brand and a commitment to the "Make-in-India, Made-for-the-World" strategy.

The Hyundai Creta remained the top contributor, clocking 18,088 units, its highest monthly sales for the current calendar year. The Hyundai i20 also performed strongly, recording 6,738 units, similarly marking its highest monthly sales for CY26.

While domestic sales grew by 23.30%, exports surged by 31.40%, indicating increasing global competitiveness for Indian-manufactured Hyundai vehicles. The company's total sales of 75,360 units also came in well ahead of the analyst consensus estimate of 49,000 units, highlighting the strength of underlying demand and the effectiveness of the company's product and market strategy.

Hyundai Motor India Limited reported a 35% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit after tax (PAT) to ₹8,886.24 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 (Q1FY27). The contraction was driven by rising operational costs, temporary production disruptions from a supplier fire incident, and geopolitical headwinds impacting exports. Despite the profit drop, total revenue from operations remained largely stable at ₹1,63,346.33 million, down just 0.48% from ₹1,64,128.75 million in Q1FY26. The Board of Directors also fixed August 05, 2026, as the record date for its final dividend of ₹21 per equity share, subject to shareholder approval at the upcoming Annual General Meeting.

The Board approved the unaudited standalone and consolidated financial results during a meeting held on July 30, 2026. The intimation was issued pursuant to Regulations 30 and 33 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. Shareholders will vote on the final dividend at the 30th Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for August 26, 2026, via Video Conferencing. Only shareholders registered in the Register of Members or as Beneficial Owners with depositories on the record date will be eligible for the payout.

Financial Performance Overview

Profitability metrics showed significant compression in Q1FY27 compared to the prior year. Consolidated EBITDA fell to ₹15,117 million from ₹21,852 million in Q1FY26, resulting in an EBITDA margin decline to 9.3% from 13.3%. Profit before tax dropped 35% to ₹12,016.50 million from ₹18,471.96 million. Earnings per share (EPS) decreased by 35.1% to ₹10.94 from ₹16.85. Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) for the quarter stood at 5.3%, down from 9.3% in Q1FY26.

Standalone results mirrored the consolidated trend, with net profit after tax falling to ₹8,831.20 million from ₹13,357.53 million. Standalone revenue from operations was ₹1,58,653.87 million, slightly lower than the ₹1,60,248.94 million recorded in Q1FY26.

Operational Costs and Margin Pressure

The primary driver for the profit decline was rising operational expenses. Total consolidated expenses increased to ₹1,54,073.52 million in Q1FY27, up from ₹1,47,804.73 million in Q1FY26. Employee benefits expense rose notably to ₹7,490.22 million from ₹6,242.13 million, while other expenses climbed to ₹22,139.83 million from ₹20,018.15 million. Cost of materials consumed remained relatively stable at ₹1,18,947.62 million. Consequently, the segment result for manufacturing and sale of motor vehicles dropped to ₹12,016.50 million from ₹18,471.96 million.

Tarun Garg, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, attributed the challenging quarter to multiple headwinds impacting volumes and profitability, including temporary production disruptions that limited domestic volume growth to 5.4% YoY and export impacts due to ongoing West Asia conflict. He noted that with 100% normalization of production and a healthy demand environment, recovery is likely to gain pace from Q2 onwards. The company reaffirmed its FY27 guidance of 8-10% YoY volume growth for both domestic and exports, and an 11-14% EBITDA margin.

Operational Highlights and Leadership Changes

Despite volume constraints, Hyundai Motor India reported strong customer traction, with the all-new Venue recording highest-ever quarterly sales in the domestic market. The contribution of CNG vehicles rose to 18%, with Aura and Exter reaching their highest-ever CNG contributions of 95% and 32%, respectively. Rural penetration hit an all-time high of 26%. Total sales volume for the quarter was 178,082 units, down 1.3% YoY from 180,399 units in Q1FY26. Domestic sales grew 5.4% to 139,374 units, while exports fell 19.6% to 38,708 units.

The Board noted key administrative developments. Mr. Gopalakrishnan CS ceased his role as Whole-time Director and Chief Manufacturing Officer due to superannuation effective August 31, 2026. Mr. Mukundan MS was appointed as the new Whole-time Director and Chief Manufacturing Officer, effective September 01, 2026, pending shareholder approval. Additionally, Mr. Young Geon Kim was appointed as Senior Management Personnel effective August 01, 2026. M/s. Geeyes & Co., Cost Accountants, were re-appointed as the Cost Auditor for FY2026-27.

AI Integration and Strategic Initiatives

Hyundai Motor India is integrating AI across its value chain to drive efficiency and customer engagement. Initiatives include the 'HyGenie' Gen AI chatbot for customer support, an AI Sales Agent for dealers, and AI-driven quality inspection in manufacturing. The company highlighted 'AI-led transformation' as a key strategic pillar, aiming to leverage AI from a productivity tool to an intelligent co-worker. This includes predictive maintenance, production planning optimization, and personalized in-vehicle AI assistance.

Regulatory Disclosures

The financial statements were prepared in accordance with Ind AS 34 and reviewed by statutory auditors B S R & Co. LLP. A significant disclosure relates to the Environment Protection (End-of-Life Vehicles) Rules, 2025, effective April 1, 2025. The company acknowledged an obligation to scrap end-of-life vehicles sold domestically since April 2005. However, due to the absence of a notified pricing mechanism for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) certificates and pending registration details, the company stated that recognition criteria under accounting standards are not yet met. As a result, no provision has been recognized for this obligation as of June 30, 2026.
