Albany International Corp. and Cyclezyme AB have reported progress in their joint project to develop enzyme-based recycling solutions for industrial textiles. The initiative focuses on depolymerizing materials primarily consisting of polyester and polyamide, areas where effective circular solutions are currently limited. The objective is to establish enzymatic processes that allow technical textiles to be broken down into reusable building blocks.
Cyclezyme has successfully depolymerized selected material samples and carried out optimization work to improve degradation efficiency. The company has also developed and produced several nylon-degrading enzymes specifically for recycling nylon and polyamide-based materials. Current work involves developing analytical methods to evaluate enzyme activity and further optimize the technology.

Peter Falck, CEO of Cyclezyme AB, emphasized the broader potential of the platform technology. "We have succeeded in developing and producing enzymes for nylon degradation which demonstrates the breadth of our platform technology and the potential to, in the long term, recycle several different types of plastics and textiles, not only polyester," Falck stated.
